Award of the lord…

First, thank you to Bud over at Older Eyes for kindly bestowing upon me the Overlord Award !

Yes, the award is given out to bloggers who appear to have unrealized world domination potential…now I just need some minions to help me take my rightful place as ruler…..right (lol). In all honesty, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the words “world domination” is the cartoon “Pinky and the Brain“, where every night, two mischievous lab rats try to take over the world…

Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Pinky: Wuh, I think so, Brain, but if we didn’t have ears, we’d look like weasels.

I will admit, being an overlord is not something that I usually think about…ever think about, but hey why not give it a whirl?

First, the requirements that come with the award: (1) List 3 things you would change if you were Overlord; (2) List 5 blogs you think are worthy of world domination; (3) Leave them a message in their comment sections with a link saying you chose them.

So, if I became an overlord, my first act would be to  eliminate the use of currency and institute a multi-level bartering system.

I have always hated money…I’ve never had as much as I would have liked, and I despise how some things cost ungodly amounts. Childrens books, for example, are typically way over-priced. Bartering is definitely the answer. I am going back to school in the Fall, and am still trying to figure out how to pay for my tuition. Wouldn’t it be easier if I could simply barter with the professors? For although I am lacking in funds, I have a plethora of non-traditional capital. I can bake a great batch of cookies, change a diaper in the car, handle psych patients who are having disassociative episodes and fold a fitted sheet. If only I could put this random conglomeration of skills to good use and be able to finance a master’s degree!

Second, more trees. This doesn’t really require an explanation, because who doesn’t want more trees in the world?

Third, I would outlaw video games, or at least put some kind of restriction on them. Something dictating that a game could only be played in 30 minute increments and the player(s) had to be exposed to at least one hour of sunlight and real social interaction per day. I hate that video games can cause a perfectly functional person to become lazy, apathetic and antisocial. I imagine a huge bonfire where all of the gaming systems could be burnt at one time…but maybe that’s taking my dictatorship a tad too far….

As my last act as overlord, I will be choosing a few blogs to pass the award on to….

  1. Laura, over at Three Cups of Coffee Later
  2. Muna, of The Round Table
  3. Tiffany, writing the blog Wander Wonder
  4. Brenna, the author of Suburban Snapshots
  5. Megan, from Ascension Blog
And now, go forth and write about how you would change the world!

    You would outlaw video games?

I can agree that they are a supremely intense waste of time but I could probably make a similar argument for just about anything. You must be dating a person who games far too much.

Still, more trees isn’t a bad idea. I’m not sure I’d vote for your green variant of anti-videogame communism but it’s food for thought.

lol You’re right, a lot of things would fall into the pointless category, but most of them don’t take up quite as much time as video games. Am not dating a gamer, but have lived with gamers several times, and there’s nothing quite as soothing as listening to machine guns and swearing as you try to go to sleep.
Thanks for stopping by – am enjoying reading your blog!

Oh, thankyouthankyouthankyou!!! :) I’m thrilled and touched and humbled by this wonderful honour! I will think diligently and discerningly tonight about which 3 things that I would change. Hm…

You are a kind and gentle overlord, as I expected, Posky’s comment notwithstanding (I’ve never understood why one would spend time playing video games. Life is too short.). However, from what I know of college professors (and I spent a lot of time around them), I’d be a little nervous about asking to barter for your tuition. Cookies and diaper changes may not be what they are looking for.

I’ll check out your links once I get caught up on mine.

Kind, except for the video game bonfires….;)
lol good point though – I probably should have picked a different example other than bartering with professors.

Hard question. Hmmm I don’t know how I would handle the currency issue–I’m afraid my gifts are not so diverse as yours–but I would make healthcare insurance obsolete. I still wouldn’t know what I would replace it with but something that works, both for patients and doctors. Also, I would make education more feasible. I guess bartering would work if it includes trading objects we don’t need, like recyclable cans or some sort of community service which will pay for tuition. Ultimately, I would be the ruler so it wouldn’t matter what I do so long as I get to rule this planet, baby! WOOT! I would have special handshakes as a way to greet the ruler. Haha.

I read a small little piece in Urban Farm magazine about “time banking.” People become parts of these “banks” (they mentioned the LA Echo Park Time Bank). Basically it replaces money with services – so if you do one hour of labor (house cleaning, gardening, tailoring, yoga lesson, etc), that translates into one time dollar that you can use to “buy” something else (maybe some carpentry, for example). So it looks like your ideas ARE taking over the world, one little community at a time. :)
